It just says "Device /dev/sdb5 is not a valid LUKS1 device", which makes absolutely no sense. I don't understand what this message means. A: This message happens if the device node doesn't exist. The easiest way to solve this is to just create the device first. Part of this is because luksFormat isn't really a cryptsetup command, but a new feature of the block device creation called "LuksFormat".
